It many seem unlikely, but there is still a lot to invent in Spanish flamenco guitar and Juan Manuel Cañizares is doing it. His choice of these two piano sonatas by Isaac Albéniz  - which belong to his Madrid period an are little known today - coincides perfectly with the composer's own objetive: 'to write Spanish music with an international accent'.
