So many years waiting for a recording from Miguel Flores 'Capullo de Jerez' and we only get 33 minutes to indulge us with his art. Truthfully, it tastes like not enough. This work is brought out to the world with a clean-cut appearance, pamphlet pictures by the master Pepe Lamarca this work and production by Julián 'Alía' Sanz. The guitars of Diego Amaya and 'Niño Jero' put the rhythmic tapping of 'jereles'. The soleá for bulería which introduces the album is proof of how pure cante may be modern. The tanguillos 'Sólo por tus besos' and the last rumba 'La vida es una rutina' may seem 'light' but it's impossible for Miguel to write anything seamless. His voice always takes us out of what's ordinary and has what contemporary flamenco lacks: personality. With Miguel there is delight as when he is in a box as when he is on stage, where he has no rival. Like no other, he manuvers the compass of each cante and never gives the same interpretation to a cante twice. On stage he is whirlwind overflowing with expression and emotion, something uncommon in the young generations claiming to be flamenco.
Although he is an unquestionable master of bulerías he holds talent in all other styles. |
